How to block your MitID to prevent unauthorised approvals
If you suspect that your MitID has been compromised, or if you have lost your phone or another device used to log in, you should block your MitID immediately. This prevents unauthorised people from approving payments or other actions on your kompasbank account. This article explains how to block your MitID and what you should then do regarding kompasbank.
What is MitID?
MitID is the Danish national digital ID system, which you use to log in with your bank, public services, and a wide range of private companies. MitID is not managed by kompasbank but by the shared public solution run by the Danish Agency for Digital Government and the MitID organisation.
This means that if you want to block your MitID, you must do so directly with MitID - not with kompasbank.
How to block your MitID
You can block your MitID in several ways:
1. Via the MitID app or MitID.dk Go to MitID's own website, log in, and select to block your MitID under settings.
2. By calling MitID support You can call MitID support at any time of day and ask to have your MitID blocked. You can find the phone number at mitid.dk.
3. By visiting Borgerservice in person If you cannot access MitID.dk or use the app, you can visit your local Borgerservice (Citizen Service) office and get help blocking your MitID.
Once your MitID is blocked, no one - not even you - can use it to log in anywhere until it is reactivated.
What should I do regarding kompasbank?
Once you have blocked your MitID, you should contact kompasbank immediately. We can help with:
- Making sure there are no pending payments or approvals you suspect are unauthorised
- Reviewing recent activity on your account
- Temporarily deactivating your netbank access until you have a new MitID
If you have a specific suspicion of unauthorised payments, call us directly rather than sending a message.
What if I am an administrator on a business account?
If you are an administrator on a kompasbank business account and you block your MitID, be aware that you will lose access to the netbank yourself. Therefore, it is important that:
- Another administrator in your company also has access so essential functions can be handled
- You contact kompasbank so we can help with any necessary actions while you wait for a new MitID
If you are the only administrator and have blocked your MitID, call us so we can find a solution together.
When should you block your MitID?
You should block your MitID immediately if:
- You have lost your phone or the device you use for MitID approval
- You suspect that someone has gained access to your MitID app or codes
- You have received suspicious approval requests that you did not initiate yourself
- You have clicked a link or entered information on a page you later suspect was a scam
It is always better to block too early than too late.
How do I get a new MitID?
When you are ready to get a new MitID, you can create one via MitID.dk, the MitID app, or at Borgerservice. Once you have your new MitID, you can contact kompasbank to restore your access to the netbank.
