Which business account package should I choose?

A business account with kompasbank comes in five packages: Starter, Growth, Scale, Domestic and Global. The difference is not the features – it is the currency margin, meaning what you pay on top of the market rate every time you exchange. The more you exchange, the faster a bigger package pays for itself. In this article you can read what the five packages include, and how to choose the one that suits you best.

What are the differences between the packages?

Starter, Growth and Scale give you access to the same core services: DKK and EUR accounts, local and international payments, and currency exchange via online banking. The difference lies within the price of the subscription itself and in the currency margin you pay when you exchange.

Domestic and Global sit at either end of the scale: Domestic is for you if you trade exclusively in Danish kroner and therefore have no need for currency exchange and international payments. Global is for you if you need more – local accounts in over 30 countries, payments in more than 140 currencies and the option of forward contracts.

Starter Growth Scale Domestic Global
Monthly price DKK 99 DKK 299 DKK 999 DKK 399 Custom pricing
Margin on EUR 0,30% 0,20% 0,15% 0,30% Custom pricing
Margin on other major currencies 0,50% 0,40% 0,20% 0,50% Custom pricing
Margin on minor currencies 1,00% 0,80% 0,60% 1,00% Custom pricing
Margin on other currencies 2,00% 1,75% 1,50% 2,00% Custom pricing
The account fee is fixed each month. The currency margin is added on top of the market rate each time you exchange. Opening the account costs DKK 1,499 for Starter, Growth, Scale and Domestic.

Which package suits your company?

The packages are built around how much currency your company exchanges.

Starter – for companies that exchange occasionally. Starter is for companies with a few international payments and only occasional currency exchange. It could be a smaller webshop with a few foreign suppliers or a consultancy with a single foreign client.

Growth – for companies that exchange regularly. Growth is for companies that have ongoing international payments and exchange currency as a regular part of operations. It could be importers with steady supplier agreements abroad or webshops with a stable share of foreign purchases.

Scale – for companies that exchange at scale. Scale is for companies with high exchange volume and many international payments. It could be larger importers, exporters, or companies with significant international trade where even a small difference in the currency margin moves meaningful amounts.

Domestic – for businesses that only pay in Danish kroner. Domestic suits businesses that need a Danish business account for day-to-day operations and do not send money out of the country. You get a DKK account, fast transfers in Danish kroner, simple digital onboarding and personal support in Danish. That could be a trades business, a Danish service company or a shop with Danish suppliers.

Global – for businesses with larger international needs. Global suits businesses where ordinary international payments are no longer enough. Here, you get local accounts in more than 30 countries, payments in over 140 currencies and the option to hedge currency risk with forward contracts. That could be businesses paying suppliers and staff in many countries, or selling through international e-commerce platforms and receiving in several currencies.

How to think about the choice in practice

Start by asking: do you send money out of Denmark? If you do not, Domestic is the right choice.

If you do, the next question is: how much does your business exchange in a typical month?

A higher package costs more in subscription, but gives you a lower currency margin in return. That means the extra subscription cost is quickly earned back if you exchange enough. For example, the difference between Starter and Growth is DKK 200 a month – that gap is typically recovered by exchanging around DKK 200,000 in euro a month, because the margin is 0.10 percentage points lower.

From Growth to Scale the difference is DKK 700 a month. If you exchange mainly in euro, you need to reach around DKK 1.4 million a month before Scale pays off. If you exchange in dollars, pounds or other major currencies, it happens already from about DKK 350,000 a month – because the margin step is twice as large there. So it is not only how much you exchange, but also what you exchange in.

If your exchange volume is very low, Starter is the right choice. If you exchange regularly and in significant amounts, Growth or Scale will pay for itself. And if you need to pay like a local in several countries, Global is right for you.

Can I change packages later?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your package if your usage changes. It is not a one-time decision.

Many companies start on the package that fits their current usage and upgrade when their exchange volume increases. This is a natural progression, and changing packages does not cost anything.

What if my company has a particular need?

For companies with very high exchange volumes or special requirements, we also offer tailored solutions. If the range does not fit your situation, you can speak to your advisor about an individual agreement.
